Project title:  Soil-Water Repellency: Quantification and Controls
Description :  My area of research for the coming years will be focused on Soil Water Repellency and Preferential Water Flow in Hydrophobic soils. At the first phase, we will improve our understanding of this natural phenomenon and then we will test different methods that describe and quantify the degree of water repellency. These methods include the Molarity of Ethanol Droplet, Capillary Rise and the direct measurement of the contact angel applying the digital microscope. We will focus on agricultural, forest and urban land. At the second phase, we will concentrate on water distribution and the modeling of fingered-like flow applying Hele-Shaw cell and TDR probe systems in climate chamber and rain simulator to simulate a given environmental conditions.
